Apple has allowed similar audits for Chinese as the Germans audits discussed. Chinese even do spot checks for individual phones sold in China to verify that they don't have US backdoors. (Apple services in China are not safe from the Chinese government of course, they are compelled to give access to Chinese).

NSA can try to install backdoor if they can (like DROPOUTJEEP), but Apple has no interest in helping and can't be legally compelled to. The Snowden documents show that Apple’s cooperation was compelled, not voluntary. Apple was the last of the major tech giants to join PRISM.
